Vorkosigan Fics:
Braces,
Buckets and Boys by Avon7
This offers a very cute look at how Ivan and Miles might have met as
very small children. I don't find the notion that they hadn't met
before convincing, but that didn't mean that I couldn't enjoy the
story. (Added 31 July 2006)
Civilization
by Rhyo
Shortly after meeting Cordelia, Aral knows that she carries
civilization with her. (Added 1 Jan. 2005)
Coming
Home by Royce Day
After Aral's death, Cordelia leaves Barrayar to return to Beta. There's
a dignity to this that's suited to the subject and a nice symmetry to
how the events play out. (Added 20
April 2006)
The
Councils
of Despair by Parhelion
Simon Ilyan tries to keep retired admiral Vorkosigan from destroying
himself in the aftermath of the Escobar campaign. (Added 1 Jan. 2005)
Creeping
Ambition by Mara Greengrass
Vorkosigan Universe/Firefly. A strange ship picks up
Ivan's escape pod, and he has to adapt in order to survive. The Ivan
voice is excellently funny. (Added 6
November 2005)
A Deeper Season
by Eolian Beck and Stacy
This is Vorkosigan slash. I was hesitant about this story because I
very much like the canonical relationships, but the authors made me
believe Gregor/Miles as, at least, an AU possibility. Laisa appears not
to exist in this universe. After events in Memory,
Gregor declares himself to Miles, and Miles has to decide if he can
deal with the repercussions, personal, political and social. (Added
15 January 2006)
A
Diversion by
Grey Bard
Captain Thorne and Admiral Naismith accept a simple courier job to
fill in time between other tasks. (Added 1 Jan. 2005)
Diversionary
Tactics by misura
What are Byerly and Lord Dono really after when they set Ivan up for a
blind date? (Added 20 Jan. 2005)
Ekphugion
by Shaye
Vorkosigan Universe/Battlestar Galactica. A ragtag fleet
suddenly appears
near Sergyar. The local government is understandably surprised. Matters
progress from there. (Added 6 November
2005)
Fairy
Dust by Jedishampoo
Laisa spends some time alone with her betrothed and gets a lesson in
the reasons for all the oppressive security. (Added 31 July 2006)
A Fine and
Glittery Mess by insptr_penguin
Ivan finds himself in an embarrassing situation. (Added 1 Jan. 2005)
First
Things First by litalex
Three firsts in Miles' life. They're all exactly right. (Added 31 July 2006)
Fluidity
by sahiya
Ivan does not enjoy being confused, and he doesn't want to be at Dono
and Olivia's wedding. (Added 31 July
2006)
Green
Silk Rooms by minor ramblings
This story offers another Betan's view of Cordelia's problems after the
war. (Added 31 July 2006)
Intimations
of Maturity by kassia06
Ivan talks Miles into a double date. (Added
31 July 2006)
Lies by Mama
Deb
Taura's had more time than she ever expected, and she still doesn't
quite believe him when he says she's beautiful. (Added 20 April 2006)
Little Bit
by quietann
Gregor courts Laisa very, very carefully. See also the immediate
sequel, "Political
Lessons." Both are sweet and quite short. (Added 31 July 2006)
Lost by Blaise
Illyan finds himself imprisoned in a medical interrogation facility. (Added 20 April 2006)
A Man
About Town by hossgal
Byerley drinks coffee the morning after an unpleasant incident and
hopes for better things. (Added 31
July 2006)
Marks
and Scars by Erica H. Smith
Harry Potter/Vorkosigan. Lord Mark finds himself temporarily in
the company of Severus Snape, and they talk. Believe it or not, the
story really works! (Also, believe it or not, my husband found this one
and recommended it to me. Usually, fan fiction scares him.) There are
two sequel stories. (Added 28 April 2004)
My Heart and My
Honour pt.1 by
jediowl
Jediowl wrote two missing scenes from The Vor Game. The first is
Gregor's confrontation with Aral aboard the Prince Serg. Part 2 is
Gregor's talk with Cordelia about his parents. (Added 8 June 2006)
Night
Visit by Josan
Cordelia visits her family towards the end of Mirror Dance. There are
several stories in this sequence. The next is "Friends in
Strange Places," followed by "Mark in the
Night." To get the rest, just go forward through the author's LJ. (Added 31 July 2006)
Project
Goldfish by Jeff Melcher
Miles uses a small mystery to entertain himself at a dinner party
that's not going the way he planned. That small mystery leads him to a
bigger mystery. (Added 20 April 2006)
The Proposal
by Josan
Gregor proposes to Laisa. Very sweet. (Added
3 Oct. 2006)
Recollection
and Recovery by philomytha
Simon and Alys meet unexpectedly in a missing scene from Memory. (Added 31 July 2006)
Shopping
by Flora
Right after arriving on Barrayar, Cordelia goes shopping for new
clothes. (Added 31 July 2006)
Significant
by lightgetsin
This is Ivan's life before and after "A Deeper Season," told in little
snippets starting when he's five. It will make little sense if you
haven't read that fic. I very much like the Ivan I see here. (Added 3 Oct. 2006)
Spelunking by
glishara
During his childhood, Miles leads Ivan and Elena in exploring a cave.
This has just the right hints that it's a miracle any of them survived
to adulthood. (Added 20 April 2006)
Sympathy
for the Devil by kilerkki
This offers a glimpse of Duv Galeni's life during the Komarran Revolt. (Added 31 July 2006)
The
Talent of
Imhose by Shusu
Miles sends Ivan off on an unofficial mission to find out why Admiral
Quinn has disappeared. The story addresses various loose ends from the
series. My main hesitation in rec'ing this is that parts of it feel not
quite complete, as if the author needed more time and space to write
the story properly. It still reads well. (Added 15 January
2006)
The Taura-Tara
Nexus by keswindhover
Buffy/Vorkosigan.
Taura is near to death and looking for help. Her request for a spirit
guide summons a surprised Tara to her side. Explicit f/f and death. (Added 2 Dec. 2006)
Venture
Capital by altariel1
Being Empress means that Laisa can't help Mark's business ventures
directly. (Added 31 July 2006)
Wrappings
by SJ Kasabi
Bel Thorne's thoughts on Admiral Naismith. (Added 1 Jan. 2005)
You
Believed Me by quietann
This fic expands on a comment in A Civil Campaign-- Dono said that
Byerley was the only one who had believed it when young Lady Donna told
people that Richars had attempted to rape her. This story looks at the
aftermath of that assault. (Added 31
July 2006)
